Ukiyo
Ukiyo: A Japanese term that literally translates to the “The Floating World”. It means to live in the moment and to be detached from the bothers of life.
Problem Statement:
One of the ways readers pick a book to read is by its cover. Book covers are so intentionally and painstakingly designed to set the mood for the rest of the book. However, as the reader opens the book and starts reading, the cover is visually hidden and all readers see are words on a page and the reading experience isn’t as immersive as it could be.
Reading is often used as a form of escapism. Ukiyo captures this idea perfectly so I used that word as a starting point when designing a tool for readers that bridges the gap between the words on a page and the imaginary world created by authors.
A reading stand that displays the cover of the book from the back to where the reader can see it while they are reading and truly immerse themselves into the world with not just the descriptions on the page but also with colors and imagery.
